Nemesis or “The Large Fortune”, 1514Loeb Exhibits "Albrecht Dürer: Impressions of the Renaissance" "Albrecht Dürer: Impressions of the Renaissance," an exhibition at the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center at Vassar, features 41 works celebrating the world of Albrecht Dürer, one of the greatest artists of the Northern Renaissance. All except one of the prints will be drawn from the permanent collection of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, renowned for its Old Master print collection. On Thursday, November 19, exhibition curator, Patricia Phagan, The Philip and Lynn Straus Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Center, will give a lecture about Dürer and printmaking, with a reception to follow. Jonathan Kaiman '09 with the Yi people in Southwestern ChinaVassar Leading Producer of Fulbright Recipients

According to the Institute of International Education, Vassar is again among the top 10 undergraduate institutions producing graduates who have earned Fulbright awards. In 2008-2009, 10 Fulbrights were awarded to Vassar alums (out of 42 applicants). Only Pomona, Smith, Pitzer, and Kenyon Colleges had a greater number of successful applicants. The rankings include awardees confirmed through September 21. Lisa Kooperman, director of Vassar’s Office of Fellowships and Pre-Health Advising acknowledged the effort put forth by members of the Committee on Fellowships, “who spent many hours reviewing these applications and providing feedback to the applicants,” adding, “I credit their hard work and dedication to our continued success in this competition.” Fulbright success is a trend she hopes will continue. Her office already has helped to package 39 applications for the upcoming fellowship cycle. Judge Charles Wood '91Election Victory

For Charles Wood ’91, Tuesday, November 3 proved to be a day for celebration. Voters elected the four-year Yonkers City Court judge to a State Supreme Court seat in the Ninth Judicial District, which encompasses Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties. Wood, who received Republican, Independence, and Conservative party endorsements, obtained 151,000 votes (12.8 percent of the votes cast). Wood has had extensive experience in both civil and criminal law, presiding over jury trials, and writing decisions that have been chosen for publication by the New York Law Journal.
