Wall Street Wisdom

Twenty-one Vassar alums who hold high-ranking positions in the financial services sector returned to campus on September 8, 2007, to give students an overview of the industry and an inside track on Wall Street internships (photo at left). Organized by the Office of Career Development in cooperation with the Development Office, the second annual Careers in Financial Services Symposium offered concurrent sessions on investment banking, wealth management, hedge funds and private equity, sales and trading, and portfolio management and equity research. The Wall Street Immersion Program, a follow-up to the symposium, takes place in January. Interested students apply for the two-day intensive, featuring tours of several financial institutions, receptions hosted by Vassar alumnae/i, and opportunities to network. In 2007, eight students secured summer internships as a result of this program.

In fall 2007, the Office of Career Development is launching a parallel program in the entertainment industry, the LA Immersion Program, open to junior film majors. Participants will spend four days in LA over fall break, meeting with Vassar alumnae/i in the film and television industries.

V-NET is a database of Vassar alumnae/i and some parents (of students and alumnae/i) who have offered their volunteer services as "Career Advisers." This means that they have made themselves available as volunteers to offer mentoring, internships, advice and guidance. If you don't find what you're looking for in V-NET, try the Alumnae/i Directory.

The Alumnae/i Directory contains listings for all alumnae/i, and included in its many search options is "Industry." Just because an alumna/us hasn't activated a V-NET profile (yet) doesn't mean that they aren't willing to network. You should utilize this resource to enhance and broaden your pool of networking opportunities.

Job/Résumé posting and searching services allow you to browse/post within the Vassar alumnae/i community.

We hope that these services will assist you in your career networking adventures. If you need career advice or guidance not found in this Career Center, please contact the Office of Career Development at cdo@vassar.edu. If you're experiencing technical difficulties using these services, please contact the alumnae/i association at aavcweb@vassar.edu.
