Phoenix Rising
This past year many alumnae/i have shown interest in reinvigorating the local club in their area. The Vassar Club of Phoenix has done a great job in redefining its mission and hosting several regularly scheduled events.
Wendy Pronin-Herst ’92 (pictured right) recently moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. In an attempt to make new friends, Wendy contacted AAVC to help her connect with fellow alumnae/i in her area. With the support of AAVC, Wendy decided to take on the task of organizing a fall mini-reunion. The November 1 mini-reunion went off without a hitch and brought out more than 30 Vassar alumnae/i from the area. The event was held at the Prickly Pear Fresh Mexican Grill in Scottsdale, where alumnae/i shared food, drinks, and fond memories of their Vassar experience. In the midst of all this fun and excitement, many attendees voiced their desire to have regular monthly gatherings that would mutually benefit all area alumnae/i.
After listening to feedback from attendees, Wendy and a few alumnae/i decided to form a club. The Phoenix club is different from other Vassar clubs in that they have not allowed specific titles to hinder or define their participation and have agreed to be equal players in the club. Meaning that no one or two people are solely responsible for the club’s activities. The new club leadership consists of many vibrant alumnae/i from the area, including Wendy Pronin-Herst ’92, Alissa Trujillo ’93, Christopher Deutsch ’97, Nikki Wills ’98, Eva Lester ’01, and J. Will Roberts ’01.
