Here’s Some Food for Thought
Ellen Freedman-Schultz ’81 (president) & Sue Hillyer Petrocelli ’83 (secretary) of the Philadelphia Vassar Club have introduced a new program series called “Food for Thought.” In keeping with Vassar’s slow food movement they introduced this new series of programs to host events that deal with food awareness by showcasing slow foods; and helping people understand and take notice of what they are putting into their bodies through an array of programs all focused on the food we eat.
The program was introduced with the book The Omnivore’s Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals by Michael Pollen.
Pollen, a chef who is appalled by modern industrial food production and how it separates us from the sources of our food wrote this book to highlight the facts that are plaguing our world today when you can eat just about anything nature has to offer, and deciding what you should eat.
The program had one other installment, a twilight dinner at the renowned restaurant Fork Inc. For upcoming Philadelphia Club events or to contact the club directly, visit the AAVC Club homepage.
