Take a Local Tour

Many clubs take full advantage of what their city has to offer by taking local group tours. Philadelphia and New York hosted two amazing tours, which brought out well over the expected amount of attendees.

The mission of the Philadelphia Vassar Club has been to motivate “friend raising,” amongst Vassar alumnae/i. One of their biggest events was the tour of the Renoir Landscape exhibit with close to 100 people in attendance.

“My daughter is a member of the Williams alumnae/i club, which sometimes attends the Philadelphia Art Museum, and we’ve both visited the museum under the sponsorship of Williams College several times. I decided to encourage the Philadelphia Club to sponsor this event because it was a traveling exhibit of a well known painter and therefore contained paintings one could not normally see without traveling a great distance and this was an exclusive tour for a limited number of attendees before the museum opens to the public.”

Museum Tour Cartoon

The Vassar Club of New York has hosted an array of Vassar focused events this past year to make that connection back to Vassar College with every event. What started out as a semi-small event for 50 people turned out to be one of the biggest events VCNY has hosted with 100 plus attendees.

“A good friend of mine, Webb Eaken ’02, started working at the New-York Historical Society last year in the public relations department under the direction of Laura Washington ’88. So, it seemed fitting that with all this Vassar connection we must hold an event there. This was the very first tour we have held there, and since it was such a success, I’m sure we’ll be doing other such events there in the future. Many of our guests said they had never been to the N-YHS, so when they received the email it immediately piqued their interest. Many remarked on the knowledge of the docents and the quality of the tours given. The reception and food catered from the Grand Daisy Bakery was a big hit with everyone as there wasn’t a drop of champagne or a crust of bread left over.”
