London & Stratford-upon-Avon: Theater Insight Tour
October 19 – 25
Travel to cosmopolitan London and historic Stratford-upon-Avon for backstage insight into theater. This program offers exceptional access to the best the world of theater has to offer.
You will attend choice performances at four important venues: the Old Vic, the National, a West End theater, and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s (RSC) Courtyard Theatre. Enjoy accommodation in London’s Mayfair district at a 4-star deluxe hotel.
Spend a day in Stratford-upon-Avon, where you will enjoy exclusive access and a custom-designed program at the Shakespeare Center. View Shakespeare’s birthplace, attend a pre-theater lecture, take part in a voice class with the RSC’s voice department, and then attend an evening performance at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre.
Special programs and backstage tours are planned throughout the trip. Take part in a post-performance discussion with a leading actor from the program, a “critical round-up” with a prominent London theater critic regarding the performances you attend, and a private reception with the Vassar Club of London at the exclusive Garrick Club, with its vast and important collection of artworks representing the history of theater. There also will be ample free time to take advantage of an additional matinee or evening performance on your own.
Associate Professor of Drama Denise Walen, who specializes in the history of theater and Elizabethan England, will lecture and provide insight during the trip.
