Tanzania: A Family Safari
December 22, 2008 – January 3, 2009
In Tanzania, the landscapes are as diverse as the wildlife, from vast open plains to lush highlands to colorful, bustling villages. This trip is ideal for all ages and for all with a spirit of adventure!
Your journey will begin in the great Serengeti and will continue deep into the wilds of Africa, where the multitude and diversity of species is unrivaled. Stay for four nights in our secluded camp and share the wilderness with the wildlife. Travel on to the famed Olduvai Gorge, where some of the earliest remains of our species have been unearthed.
Explore the Ngorongoro Crater, where a nearly perfect balance of predator and prey exists within the 102 square miles of the crater floor, and stay at a lodge located 2,000 feet above the crater floor. Journey to the Great Rift Valley and the Tarangire National Park, Tanzania’s fourth largest, where you will find a geologic landscape as diverse as the wildlife.
In addition to safari touring, you will enjoy a variety of cultural and recreational activities, including village visits, animal-tracking workshops, beading lessons, school visits with pre-assigned pen-pals, swimming, biking, light hiking, games (both familiar and traditional Tanzanian), soccer, Frisbee, and more.
Joining the trip is Assistant Professor of Psychology Abigail Baird ’91, a developmental psychologist who will share her fascination with and knowledge of the social life of elephants.
